DefeXtiles
DefeXtiles is a textile fabrication technique that produces thin and flexible fabrics on standard 3D printers. The method controls under-extrusion so that small globs form with fine strands between them. The resulting periodic gaps give a woven appearance, breathability, flexibility and stretch, even with rigid materials such as polylactic acid. The fabric is printed perpendicular to the print bed, so pleated, curved and complex shapes can be made. Applications include garments, tangible interfaces and toys.
DefeXtiles Textile Fabrication by Jack Forman has been highlighted as an outstanding representation of fashion design by the A' Design Awards. DefeXtiles Textile Fabrication won the Silver A' Design Award in Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design in 2021. The A' Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design recognition program which rewards excellent design of structural fabric, engineered cloth, smart textiles, technical textiles, woven fabric, jacquard fabric, tapestries and more.
